金州区第一人民医院的历史要追溯到上世纪三十年代，最早的前身是1930年日本殖民当局开办的大连“满铁”医院金州分院；1945年日本投降后，被民主联军辽南独立师接管，改称为12师后方医院；1947年1月改称中苏医院、后更名苏联红十字医院住院部；1949年6月1日金县县立医院正式成立；1951年与苏联红十字医院合并——此乃金州区第一人民医院之前世今生。历经八十八载风雨洗礼、金州一院人发愤图强，现已发展成为集医疗、预防、保健为一体的大型国家三级综合性现代化医院。

医院专业分类齐备，业务水平领先，人才层次鲜明。医院附设金州区体检中心、金州区120院前急救中心、金州区口腔医院。是国家“爱婴医院”，国家卫生计生委指定的“全国伤害监测哨点医院”､“腹膜透析治疗及基层管理模式实施医疗机构”及“卒中中心”,辽宁省全科医学基层实践基地､辽宁省危重孕产妇抢救中心,辽宁省全科医学基层实践基地､辽宁省危重孕产妇抢救中心,全区卫生技术指导中心､全科医生培训基地。承担地区的常见病､多发病和部分疑难病症的诊治任务;承担全区突发公共卫生事件的应急和急､危､重病人的救治工作;承担全区医疗业务的培训工作,接受农村基层医院医生的培训和进修｡2018年7月通过国家级胸痛中心认定，正式成立胸痛中心；同年9月“癌痛规范化治疗示范病房”通过省级审核后正式成立。

医院编制床位790张，目前开放床位1000张，分设25个病区、29个临床专业科室、35个学科专业、10个医技科室。其中心内科、神经内科、普外科、妇产科是大连市重点学科。医院年门、急诊量60万余人次，住院病人3万余人次。
